This latest eBook of mine is an exploration into the many ways that I connect with nature, in all its forms. Inside are firsthand accounts of some of my personal experiences and stories, of tenderness, interaction, and intimacy. I also share some insight into how my creative process works. How I use intricate details to help create a photograph that will resonate with the viewer. This piece was and still is, a labor of love to produce, compile and now share.

All flowers have a natural flow to them; learning to see that natural flow and capturing their unique lines helps to bring their individual beauty to life. Before I begin photographing, I spend time observing my subjects, looking for that “special something” that can help to set my images apart. When I photograph flowers, my intent is to present a softer look, using a more artistic approach. This does not necessarily mean I am trying to create images that are not sharp. It simply implies a more delicate, romantic feel, rather than end to end sharpness and grain. This is my fourth book dedicated to flowers and serves as a revision of my extremely popular “Softer Side of Macro” book, filled with a lot of new images and thoughts.

Introduction
I feel that there are no clear cut rules when it comes to photography; to me, abstract photography is no different, if anything there are fewer restrictions. My favorite abstracts are found naturally in nature but just about any subject can become abstract, depending on the way it’s photographed. When trying to create an abstract image, I often think of ways to use color, movement, shapes, patterns and textures to define the abstract; using some or all of them together or individually depending on the effect I am after.
What's inside? Lots of stuff that I have written about on my blog, lots of techniques that I teach at my workshops, but mostly how and why I approach creative photography. Below in the table of contents you will see a section for in-camera blurs, this eBook does not cover everything that you need to know about blurs as I already wrote that book "A Guide to Creative Blurs" but it does give you ideas and helps to get you started.
In this guide I share a lot more techniques for capturing blurs, including multiple exposures and also post processing blurs. If you enjoy creating artistically blurred images then this eBook will appeal to you.
In addition to the varied types of blurs that I cover in the eBook listed below, I also cover the factors that contribute to the degree of blurring and I will teach you to recognize situations where subject movement can be used to your advantage. This is not a book on exposure or gear but rather, a guide to composing for birds. I have never conformed to many of the compositional rules, as they were just not pleasing to my eye. I decided to put together a culmination of compositional thoughts that have served me well over the years and that appeal to the artist inside of me. “Visual Expressions” is more of a virtual coffee table book. In this eBook you will find more than one hundred of my very favorite images. Most of the images contained in this book will be labelled as either Before or After. This allows everyone to see what I am dealing with before I start working on an image. I find this approach to be very helpful in conveying my ideas. When you see an image labelled with the word Before it will signify that an image is straight-out-of-camera with absolutely no enhancements or editing, please keep this in mind when viewing the photo. After, will mean that I have processed the image and it is my final version which also includes resizing for the web, adding my signature and sharpening. I’ll be working in Photoshop and sometimes bringing my images into Camera-Raw from Photoshop, please keep in mind this is not a Photoshop 101 lesson book.
